The Nevada Nuclear Test Site

Let me start by saying this.. I’m not a good writer. I’m a very technical person, and I don’t really like to read books. That being said, I really wanted to describe as best as I could my trip to the Nevada National Security Site. No pictures were allowed.. No cell phones.. Nothing. All we were allowed to take were notes and memories. All pictures posted here of items at the test site were found online and provided by the US government. It’s  a place not many citizens get to see. It’s a place that most people think only nuclear bomb testing was done at.
Yes, a lot of nuclear bombs were set off here for research and development, but it’s much more than that, especially now.

I hope that after reading this that you understand why we need this site, and why we needed to to the testing that we did.

Wednesday – August 31, 2011

It was a beautiful summer morning in Vegas. I watched the reflection of the sunrise on the side of the Mandalay Bay hotel. I was in the Excalibur, and had a great view to the south. I woke up way earlier than I needed to, probably because of the anticipation of the day’s events. Today I will be touring the former Nevada Test Site, now called the Nevada National Security Site. This was the former home to the majority of the United United States of America’s nuclear bomb testing .
Once a month, the US government allows a small group of people to tour this site. I was lucky enough to get signed up for a tour this year.
I packed my lunch, filled my Camelbak with water and ice, and was on my way. My shirt for the day displayed a test pattern. It seemed fitting since I was visiting the test site.

My summer vacation is paid for and ready!

June 6-12, 2012.. Vegas!

Flight to and from Vegas, 6 nights at the Excalibur, and transportation to and from the airport/hotel: $480!!

But here’s the main reason I’m going back (again) to Vegas:

$500 for a 3-day VIP ticket.. Should be a blast :)  It better be!

Also got a shuttle bus pass to/from the hotel and the event for $70.

6 nights in Vegas including flight, hotel, transportation, entertainment, and some food and drink, all for about $1000.
Not too bad…

The secret In-N-Out burger in Hillsboro

It may not be a secret to some, but up until recently it was a secret to me.

I’m a fan of In-N-Out burger. I’ve been known to drive from the Portland area all the way down to Redding, CA just to get a 4×4 and some Animal Style fries. Whenever I go to Vegas, the first stop after getting a rental car is In-N-Out.

It’s one of the few fast food places I frequent when I can.

Unfortunately, there will never be an In-N-Out in the Portland area. To keep their food fresh, they only have restaurants within 1 driving-day of their meat processing plant.
That’s probably a good thing though. If we had one here, it would be very bad for me in the long run.

But, I’ve recently been made aware of the next best thing, and it’s right near me.
